How should we deal with the people of innovation (Ahl al-Bidʻah) who place stones to prostrate upon them or seek blessings from the coverings of the Kaaba inside the Two Holy Mosques?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Prostrating on a stone is an innovation that has no basis in Islamic law. It is a practice that distinguishes some sects among the people of innovation. Touching the curtains of the Kaaba and the Maqam, or kissing them, are innovations that have no basis in Islamic law. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not do this; he only used to kiss and touch the Black Stone.

Denouncing innovations is done by inviting to Allah with wisdom, good admonition, and arguing in the best manner, while considering the circumstances and conditions of those being invited. It is permissible to prevent the people of innovation by hand, gently, when their actions harm those praying and circumambulating.
