Is marriage between humans and jinn permissible, and if so, how does it occur?

Allah Almighty has bestowed a great favor upon humanity by creating spouses from their own kind to achieve tranquility, affection, mercy, and to populate the earth. Scholars have differed on the ruling of marriage between jinn and humans, holding three main opinions: prohibition, which is the view of Imam Ahmad and most scholars; disfavor (karahah), which is the view of Imam Malik and others; and permissibility, which is a view held by some Shafi'is. The arguments against its permissibility are based on the apparent meanings of verses that mention the creation of spouses from humankind in the context of divine favor, and due to the dangers that may result from it, such as the occurrence of indecencies, problems with offspring, and harm to humans.
