The answer

The blood discharged after an abortion, if it does not show the formation of a human being and occurs outside the usual time of menstruation, is dysfunctional bleeding (), and intercourse is permissible.

However, if the formation of a human being is apparent, then it is postpartum bleeding (), or if it occurs during the usual time of menstruation, then it is menses (hayd). In both of these latter cases, intercourse is forbidden while the blood is observed.

If intercourse occurred during an intervening period of purity, then there is no blame upon either of you. If it occurred while the blood was observed due to ignorance of the ruling, then there is no blame upon either of you. But if it was done with knowledge of the prohibition, then both of you have sinned, and repentance is obligatory. It is more prudent to pay an expiation of one dinar or half a dinar.
