Are ablution, prayers, and Hajj considered valid and acceptable if a Muslim wipes his face with water instead of washing it, taking into account that the wiping thoroughly wets the face, and that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform ablution with a "mudd" of water? And does the saying "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my Ummah their mistakes and forgetfulness" apply to this case?

Washing the face is one of the pillars of ablution according to the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. Whoever omits it, their ablution and prayer are invalid. Wiping does not suffice for washing, because washing is the pouring of water, while wiping is merely touching without pouring.

However, if wiping reaches the extent of pouring and dripping after three wipes, then it is considered a valid wash.

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning one who only wipes their face due to ignorance: whether they must repeat their prayers or are excused by ignorance. The preponderant view is that such a person is not required to repeat prayers, unless the ignorance is due to recent conversion to Islam, or upbringing in a place where knowledge is unavailable. However, for one who lived among Muslims in a country where knowledge is widespread, their claim of ignorance concerning a matter known by necessity in the religion is not acceptable.

If the reason for the ignorance was living in a non-Muslim country, and the person was not negligent in learning their religion, then it is hoped that they will be excused, and they are not required to repeat prayers.
