Is a husband sinful if he divorces his wife due to her insistence on committing a sin (whether minor or major) or due to her disobedience to him in matters that please Allah?

There is no sin upon the husband for divorcing his wife who disobeys Allah or transgresses His commands, because divorcing her ranges between being recommended and obligatory, especially if she neglects her obligatory duties towards Allah or is unchaste. It may even reach the level of obligation in these cases. However, it is not advisable to resort to divorce merely for persistence in disobedience, unless the husband or his children are harmed by her disobedience, because divorce may lead to greater harms. The husband must strive to reform his wife and guide her to the straight path. Islam has clarified how to deal with a disobedient wife, gradually from admonition to abandonment in bed, then disciplinary beating. If these means are unsuccessful, he may divorce her.
