Is it permissible to marry the daughter of one's maternal aunt if the mother was breastfed by the fiancée's mother?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever suckles from a woman during the suckling period, five full sucklings, becomes her son and a brother to all her sons and daughters, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "What is unlawful by lineage is unlawful by suckling." If your mother suckled five full sucklings from the mother of that girl, then she is your maternal aunt through suckling, and it is not permissible for you to marry her. However, if the suckling was less than five full sucklings, then you may marry her.
