Is working with one's father, and abandoning all other interests to dedicate all time and energy to him, considered an act of righteousness (birr) or a duty, such that abandoning it would be considered disobedience to parents (ʿuqūq al-wālidayn), given the aforementioned circumstances?

Obeying a parent when he asks his child to work with him falls under the category of dutifulness (birr), for which the child will be rewarded in this world and the hereafter. This obedience is obligatory if it benefits the parent and does not cause harm to the child. It is stipulated that obedience to the parent must not lead to neglecting the rights of the spouse if the child is a married daughter; for the husband's right takes precedence over the rights of the parents when there is a conflict. What the child owns is his own property, and the parent is not permitted to dispose of it except under specific legal conditions.
