Is it permissible to hide secrets and actions from one's parents?

It is permissible for a person to keep some privacies and secrets that they do not wish anyone to know about, as mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah, including the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, concealing some secrets.

However, one should not excessively conceal secrets from family members, so that it does not lead to isolation and family disintegration. Excessive concealment may also deprive a person of their family's advice and consultation.

One must be extremely cautious about concealing secrets related to a sin or transgression, whether overt or covert, especially concerning forbidden relationships; because revealing these secrets might be necessary to avoid severe consequences.

The general principle for concealment is that it should be minimal, for important matters that do not concern the family, do not involve a sin, do not harm relationships, and would not anger family members if they learned of them later. Other than that, each case is considered individually to determine whether disclosure or concealment is more appropriate.
