What is the ruling on sitting for hours in front of the Internet for the purpose of seeking knowledge and socializing?

A Muslim should safeguard their time and strive for what benefits them, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Be keen on what benefits you and seek help from Allah." Furthermore, on the Day of Judgment, one will be questioned about their lifespan, wealth, knowledge, and body. If using the internet and chat is for commendable purposes, such as researching knowledge, refuting disbelievers, and spreading the call to Islam, then it is permissible for those who can do so without neglecting their obligations. However, if it is for an ignoble purpose, such as addressing women, getting to know girls, or establishing suspicious or forbidden relationships, then it is forbidden and a door to temptation that must be abandoned due to the corruption it entails and the arrows of Iblis within it.
