What is the value of the Fidyah (ransom) due for breaking a day's fast in Ramadan for a diabetic, and is it permissible to give the entire amount to one poor person?
It is permissible for one whom a trustworthy physician advises that fasting would harm them to break their fast. They must make up for the missed days when they are able. If physicians inform them that they will never be able to fast in the future, then fasting is not obligatory upon them, and they must feed a needy person for each day (one mudd of food), which is approximately 750 grams. It is permissible to give the expiation to a single poor person. It is also permissible to pay the monetary value of the feeding if there is a need, by ascertaining the price of the staple food in the country and paying the equivalent of 750 grams of the price per kilogram for each day.
