Is it permissible to give Zakat to a brother who is unemployed and has no income, but lives in his father's house and is provided with food and drink?

If the brother is provided for by his father's sustenance (food, drink, clothing, and shelter), then he is not poor, and it is not permissible to give him zakat due to poverty. However, it is permissible if he is an indebted person facing hardship.

If he is not provided for by his father's sustenance, then there are two situations:

1. If his maintenance is obligatory upon you: It is not permissible to give him zakat; rather, you must provide for him. 2. If his maintenance is not obligatory upon you: It is permissible to give him zakat on the basis of him being poor or needy. He is more deserving of it than others, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Charity given to the poor is a charity, and to a relative, it is two: upholding kinship ties and charity."
