Is a husband entitled to cut off the allowance of his second wife, who is financially independent, on the pretext of her employment, and her being content with food, drink, and shelter, while he provides an allowance for his first wife?

The obligatory maintenance (nafaqa) due from the husband is the sufficiency of food, housing, and clothing, according to the couple's situation. The husband is not required to give his wife an allowance exceeding the obligatory maintenance. The husband must be just among his wives in division (of time) and in spending according to what is customary. However, equalizing between them in gifts and donations is recommended, not obligatory. Therefore, the husband does not sin if he cuts off the allowance exceeding the obligatory maintenance, but it is better for him to equalize between his wives in this regard.
