The answer

Zakat is obligatory on wealth if it reaches the nisab and a full year passes over it without it decreasing. Zakat is not waived for the unmarried or the unemployed. The nisab for banknotes is the equivalent of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, and one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) must be given.
