Urinating while standing in a Western-style toilet, if it is for a valid reason such as an illness, is permissible without being disliked (). The reason for disliking urination while standing is the inability to guarantee protection from splashing urine droplets. However, if one is safe from contamination or from being seen, there is no dislike. As for the Malikis, they differentiated the ruling based on the nature of the place. If urine droplets soil one's clothes and the soiling is certain, then washing them is obligatory for prayer. If washing them is difficult, then one should not urinate in such a way in the first place, except for an excuse.
