Is it permissible for a Muslim to sponsor non-Muslim children to raise them upon Islam?

Sponsoring orphans and helping the needy are among the greatest acts of obedience. Islam has generally encouraged doing good and has linked it with bowing and prostrating. However, it is more fitting for a Muslim to direct their good deeds towards Muslims, and even more so towards the pious among them. Jurists have differed on the permissibility of voluntary charity to a non-believer, though the preponderant opinion is its permissibility. Nonetheless, sponsoring Muslim children is better and yields greater reward.
