How can the statement of Umar ibn al-Khattab—that the verses of usury were among the last to be revealed and that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not explain them—be reconciled with the hadiths indicating that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, explained everything and left the Ummah on a clear path?

The last verse to be revealed in the Qur’an was the verse of riba (usury), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not explain it before his death. However, this does not contradict his statement, "I have left you upon a clear path," for it does not mean that he explained everything. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified what he was commanded to convey and left what he was not commanded to convey out of mercy for the Ummah. This includes what he intended to write during his illness, which Umar prevented, and his prohibition of excessive questioning, as in the story of Hajj. Some scholars have adopted the principle that "leaving out details is to be taken as a general ruling."
