How is the prostration of forgetfulness performed according to the Hanafi school of thought?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Hanafī school of thought on the prostration of forgetfulness (sujūd al-sahw) is that it is recommended for all of it to be performed after the salutation (taslīm). So, when the worshipper says the salutation, they should then say "Allāhu akbar" (God is Greatest), perform two prostrations, then recite the tashahhud, and finally say the salutation again. This is considered the most preferable by them.

If one prostrates before the salutation, it is permissible, though it goes against what is better, as they would have omitted its Sunnah, which is to perform it after the salutation.
