Does God forgive a polytheist who worships something from His creation alongside Him, and what is the proof of that?

Allah forgives a polytheist if he embraces Islam and abandons polytheism, based on the Almighty's saying: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, what has passed will be forgiven for them," and His saying about those who repent from polytheism, murder, and fornication: "For those, Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones." However, whoever dies upon polytheism will not be forgiven, based on the Almighty's saying: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him," and His saying about those who die while they are disbelievers: "For those, We have prepared a painful punishment."
