Whoever breaks a compulsory fast for a legitimate religious reason, such as an illness from which recovery is hoped, must make up the days he missed. If the illness is not expected to be cured, or if the breaking of the fast is due to old age making fasting difficult, then he must feed one poor person for each day. As for whoever breaks the fast due to travel, he must make up the days he missed whenever it becomes easy for him to do so.
