Why haven't sorcerers controlled the world and dominated it, if they are able to control jinn and send them to possess people? And is there a limit to the power of magic? And what is the evidence for that?
Magic is real and has an effect by Allah's permission. This has been affirmed by the Sunnis and the majority of scholars, and it is indicated by verses from the Qur’an and the Prophet's Sunnah. The jinn's power is not absolute. The jinn were subjected to absolute subjugation only for Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, as an honor and a miracle to him. As for the jinn's obedience to sorcerers, it is conditional upon specific terms and mutual interests, whereby the sorcerer aids the jinn in their purposes in exchange for the fulfillment of some of his requests, which may even lead to disbelief. The jinn do not have absolute power to manage or control the universe; their power is limited, and they only affect by Allah's permission. The remembrance of Allah Almighty protects the servant from the devil's actions. If a servant mentions Allah's name, the devil becomes unable to act, which indicates their weakness before Allah's power. Allah alone is the Administrator of the universe's affairs; what He wills comes to be, and what He does not will does not come to be.
