Is the marriage of a Christian woman to a Muslim man valid without a guardian, and is the husband's repentance valid after his release from prison given a previous relationship that resulted in children? And how can one deal with a husband who believes that marital life cannot be upright unless the wife converts to Islam, refuses to discuss it with her, talks to other women with the intention of marriage, mistreats her claiming she is an infidel, and prevents her from consulting others?

The marriage is valid with the guardianship of the Kitābī woman's guardian (walī) from her male agnatic relatives ('aṣabah), or the Muslim judge, or the director of the Islamic center. If a woman marries without a guardian, or if the imam of the mosque marries her while her guardian is present, the marriage is valid and cannot be annulled. Whatever the circumstances, you are a legitimate wife.

Islam enjoins kindness towards the wife, including understanding her, not shaming her for her religion, and granting her the right to enjoyment. It is not permissible to compel a Kitābī wife to embrace Islam. A woman is not permitted to seek divorce except for a valid excuse. In case of dispute, two arbitrators from their families should be appointed to reconcile them. Do not rush to divorce.
