Does a man need to perform ghusl if he has intercourse with his wife while wearing a condom that prevents semen from reaching her body?

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, in "Ash-Sharh Al-Mumti'", mentioned three opinions regarding the obligation of ghusl (ritual bath) with intromission when a barrier is present:

1. It is a condition for ghusl to be obligatory that intromission occurs without a barrier. 2. Ghusl is obligatory even with the presence of a barrier. 3. If the barrier is thin, such that pleasure is attained through it, then ghusl is obligatory; otherwise, it is not.

The reason for this difference of opinion stems from varying understandings of the hadith: "When he sits between its four parts, and then exerts himself, ghusl becomes obligatory," and "When the circumcised meets the circumcised." The third opinion is the closest to correctness, and it is more cautious to perform ghusl to avoid dispute. All of this applies if no seminal fluid is discharged; otherwise, ghusl is obligatory by scholarly consensus.
