What is the ruling on shaving part of the head and leaving part of it?

Qaza‘ (shaving part of the head and leaving part) is unanimously considered reprehensible (makrooh). The reason for its prohibition is either disfigurement or imitation of Jews or fasiq (defiantly disobedient) individuals. However, if qaza‘ involves imitating disbelievers, then it is forbidden (haram). Shortening some hair and not other parts does not fall under qaza‘. But if the shortening is significant, it is prohibited because it resembles qaza‘ and is considered an imitation of fasiq individuals. That which is reprehensible is what involves a significant and obvious disparity resembling qaza‘, and it is prohibited due to disfigurement or imitation of fasiq individuals. As for a non-obvious, harmonious disparity, there is no prohibition concerning it.
