Can a jinn harm someone because of pouring hot water into the drain or the like, and how can one avoid harming them?

A Muslim must avoid harming all creatures. If there is a doubt whether a place is inhabited by jinn or not, it is best to err on the side of caution and refrain from harming them in any way, and to remember Allah Almighty with the prescribed invocations that protect against their evil.
