What is the ruling on hastening marriage with the intention of seeking protection [from sin] and avoiding the forbidden, as opposed to taking one’s time in choosing a righteous wife, and what is the path to salvation from desires if marriage is not feasible?

One must be keen to choose a righteous wife and take time in doing so. However, if a man fears falling into haram (definition) (unlawful acts), he must hasten to marry, as Al-Bahuti said: "Marriage becomes obligatory by a vow, or for one who fears committing zina (fornication/adultery) by not marrying, and is capable of marrying a free woman, even if his fear is merely a strong suspicion." He must also strive for chastity by fasting, while safeguarding his hearing and sight from what is unlawful, along with seeking refuge in Allah, seeking His help, avoiding places of temptation, and occupying his time with beneficial deeds. It should be noted that studying in mixed universities and schools, and residing in lands of disbelievers, are great doors to temptation.
