The referred is that of Buraydah, may Allah be pleased with him, in which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The sanctity of the wives of the mujahideen upon those who stay behind is like the sanctity of their own mothers." And that whoever betrays a mujahid concerning his family, will be stopped for him on the Day of Resurrection, so that he may take from his deeds whatever he wishes.
This betrayal is more general than adultery, and includes every evil act committed by the one who stays behind towards the family of the mujahid. It is considered the greatest of betrayals, because the one who is betrayed takes all the good deeds of the betrayer.
Al-Nawawi points out that "the sanctity of the wives of the mujahideen" includes forbidding exposing them to suspicion, and the obligation to treat them kindly, do good to them, and fulfill their needs without mischief.
