Is there a control for worldly matters that a young man can adopt to avoid excessive preoccupation with worldly affairs such as marriage and debt repayment, and maintain remembrance of the Hereafter and his humility in prayer?
Drawing closer to Allah is not limited to rituals; rather, it encompasses every permissible act performed by the servant in hope of what is with Allah, even lawful matters, if the intention is to draw closer to Him. Your preoccupation with marriage matters is not considered purely worldly if you intend thereby to protect yourself and your wife from sin, to increase the Ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and to produce offspring. Similarly, attending to paying off debts and returning rights is an act of drawing closer to Allah. However, one must be careful that preparing for marriage does not distract you from individual obligatory duties, or from reciting the Qur’an and remembering Allah.
