Spouses should strive for understanding and avoid conflict to achieve family stability, for affection, mercy, and tranquility are fundamental objectives of Islamic marriage legislation. The issue of a wife serving her husband is disputed, with the preponderant view being its obligation according to custom, and cooperation between spouses is encouraged. What occurred here is the suspension of divorce on the wife washing clothes. A suspended divorce takes effect upon the occurrence of the condition it was suspended upon. Thus, if she does not wash the clothes, the divorce occurs according to the majority of scholars, even if the husband did not intend it. And if he intended the washing of all clothes, then washing only some of them does not fulfill the condition.
