Does the severity of mocking God affect the acceptance of repentance? Thank you.
Repentance from any sin, no matter how great, even if it is major disbelief (kufr akbar) such as "mocking Allah," is accepted if it fulfills its conditions. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: Mocking the religion or cursing Allah and His Messenger is disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam, and yet, "there is still room for repentance from it," based on Allah's saying: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" So, if a person repents with sincere repentance (tawbah nasuhah) that fulfills its conditions, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance. There is no difference in the acceptance of repentance between one who committed the sin openly and one who committed it secretly.
