What is the supplication we say at the beginning of fasting?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The supplication upon seeing the new moon is: "O Allah, bring it forth upon us with security and faith, and safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah." This supplication is recited upon seeing the new moon at the beginning of every month and is not exclusive to the new moon of Ramadan.

There is no specific supplication for starting the fast each day. Rather, the intention for fasting on the following day is made in the heart and must be made at night before the break of dawn, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever does not make the intention to fast from the night, there is no fast for him." Intention is an action of the heart, and it is not prescribed to utter it verbally.
