It is not permissible for a husband to humiliate his wife or to curse, insult, or mistreat her. However, divorce is not advisable unless discord becomes entrenched and there is no way for reconciliation, for the sake of the children and preserving the family unit. If divorce becomes inevitable, custody belongs to the mother as long as she does not remarry. She should not relinquish custody and leave the children with their father as a form of harm to him.
