Is it forbidden to employ someone whom you know spends part of his wage on unlawful things, such as drinking alcohol, taking drugs, or committing adultery? And is this agreed upon?

Allah Almighty stated that the best of those you hire is one who combines the qualities of trustworthiness and strength. A person who is excessive in sin against Allah, such as drug and alcohol addicts, is not trustworthy with their own money or the money of others.

It is not advisable to employ such individuals if they spend all their money on unlawful things, because it is considered aiding in sin, and Allah has forbidden cooperation in sin and aggression.

However, if they spend their wages on both sinful and permissible things (such as expenses for themselves and their families), then their employment is not forbidden. Nevertheless, it is preferable to deny them employment as a deterrent and a form of censure, unless they have family and children who would be harmed by their unemployment. In such a case, they may be employed for this benefit, while continuing to advise and guide them.
