Is the husband obligated to financially support his wife's mother to bring her to live in his country, knowing that he is disinclined to help her and can barely support himself and his wife?

A husband should maintain ties with his wife's family and treat them kindly, as this is part of good companionship and noble character. It also brings joy to the wife and strengthens the relationship between the husband and his in-laws. However, this is not obligatory for him; rather, it is a recommended good deed.

If the wife wishes to bring her mother to live with them, the husband should help her if he is able to, as this is part of good companionship and noble association. However, if this causes him hardship, "Allah does not burden a soul beyond its scope." The husband is not obligated to financially support his wife's family unless he has surplus wealth beyond his needs and the needs of those he supports.
