Is it an act of filial piety for a son to leave his suitable job to reside in the same country as his mother and sister?
Filial piety towards one's mother is among the most incumbent duties, the greatest acts of nearness to Allah, and a means of attaining His pleasure, while disobeying her is one of the gravest sins. If the mother is in need of her son's presence in her country, and the son finds work that suffices his needs, then he must remain. However, if she is not in need and the son would be harmed by leaving his work, then he is not obliged to leave it. Nonetheless, his proximity to her is more conducive to his dutifulness towards her, and what he misses in terms of work cannot be compared to the good he misses by not being dutiful to his mother, for dutifulness to her is a cause of blessing in sustenance and life.
