The sign of puberty for a male is one of three things: the emission of semen with desire, or the growth of coarse hair around the private parts (pubic hair), or reaching fifteen lunar years of age. If a man reaches puberty by any of these signs, he is held accountable [for religious duties] and must make up the prayers he missed; otherwise, he is not obliged to make them up. Mere thinking about women is not a sign of puberty. It is advisable to turn away from thoughts that incite lust.
