A person intending 'Umrah or Hajj must enter into the state of Ihram from the Miqat, such as Rabigh for the people of Morocco and Egypt. The person in Ihram must avoid the prohibitions of Ihram, which are: concluding a marriage contract, sexual intercourse and its preludes, hunting land animals, using perfume, removing hair, and clipping nails. Men are specifically prohibited from covering the head and wearing sewn garments, while women are prohibited from covering their face, unless they are in mixed company, in which case they may let something hang down over their face, and they may not wear gloves. Everything becomes permissible for the 'Umrah performer after the Tawaf, Sa'y, and shaving or shortening the hair.
