What is the ruling regarding someone who was born to Muslim parents, and in their youth, unknowingly committed an act of slandering the Divine and listened to diviners, then committed to religious observance after marriage? Does what they did expel them from the fold of Islam? And must they utter the Shahadatayn and perform ghusl? And are the misfortunes that befall them in this world due to their sins, despite their repentance and seeking forgiveness, based on Allah's saying: "And whatever strikes you of misfortune – it is because of what your hands have earned"?

What a person does before puberty is not held against them due to the رفع القلم (lifting of the pen) from the child. However, abandoning prayer after puberty is one of the major sins. If a person repents to Allah for their sins and perseveres in prayer, it is hoped that Allah will accept it from them. The whispers (waswas) concerning the non-acceptance of deeds are from Satan, and they must be repelled by having a good opinion of Allah. Disobedience is a cause for punishment, but Allah forgives many sins, and the calamities, illnesses, and sorrows that befall a believer are expiated by Allah for their wrongdoings. Therefore, one must repent, be patient, and be content with Allah's decree.
