What is the authenticity of the Hadith: "Whoever marries a woman for her lineage, may Allah not increase him in lineage; and whoever marries her for her wealth, may Allah not increase him in wealth; and whoever marries her for her prestige, may Allah not increase him in prestige. However, whoever marries her to guard his sight and his private parts, Allah will bless him in her," and is there a reward for one who marries to guard his sight and his private parts?
The Hadith: "Whoever marries a woman for her prestige, Allah will only increase him in abasement. Whoever marries her for her wealth, Allah will only increase him in poverty. Whoever marries her for her lineage, Allah will only increase him in baseness. And whoever marries a woman for no other reason than to lower his gaze, or to protect his private parts, or to maintain kinship ties, Allah will bless him in her, and bless her in him," is very weak and not authentically attributed to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Seeking marriage to protect one's gaze and private parts from the unlawful is a legitimate Shar'i objective for which one is rewarded. This has been indicated by several Shar'i texts: 1. The Hadith of Ibn Mas'ud: "O young people, whoever among you can afford to marry, let him do so, for it helps in lowering the gaze and protecting the private parts. And whoever cannot afford it, let him fast, for it will be a shield for him." 2. The Hadith of Abu Hurayrah: "There are three whose help is a right upon Allah: the fighter in the cause of Allah, the mukātab (slave who has a contract of manumission) who desires to fulfill his agreement, and the one who marries seeking chastity."
There is no objection to a man seeking a woman for her beauty, as long as religiosity is the primary motivator. If both religiosity and beauty are combined, it is better and more preferable. And if he leaves one who is more religious and better than her, there is no harm.
