What is the ruling on a mother claiming to be pregnant and then bringing a child for adoption and attributing him to her husband, whether with his agreement or not, and what is the legitimate course of action regarding the mother's attitude and anger if she proceeds with this?

What the mother intends to do, namely adopting an orphan and attributing him to her husband, is a grave sin and a great evil, because Islam has forbidden adoption and commanded that a child be attributed to his father. Allah Almighty says: "Nor has He made your adopted sons your [real] sons" and "Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah." This leads to many corruptions, such as inheritance for one who is not an heir, mahramiyyah (being unmarriageable) for one who is not a mahram, and lying and deception. The desire for sponsorship does not justify these abominations. It is not permissible for the questioner to assist her mother in her action; rather, she must advise her and remind her of the hadith: "There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in what is good."
