The question

What is the ruling on the prayer of one who combined and shortened prayers in Ta'if for five days after spending one day in Makkah, and is her prayer valid despite not being certain about the distance that permits shortening and the number of days specified for it, and what is the ruling on her prayers performed with socks that might have had impurity on them, and she forgot to remove them?

The answer

The distance that permits shortening prayers is 83 kilometers between the two ends of the towns. It is for the traveler to shorten and combine prayers until he returns to his country. However, if he intends to reside in a country for four days or more, the status of traveler ceases for him, and he is no longer permitted to avail himself of the traveler's concessions. As for someone who intends to reside for less than four days, or resides for a need whose end he does not know, he is permitted to shorten and combine prayers. Doubt about being afflicted by impurity does not affect the validity of the prayer unless certainty is achieved. If the worshipper is certain of the presence of impurity but was ignorant or forgot, his prayer is valid and he is not required to repeat it.
