Is cleaning the kitchen with the intention of drawing closer to God, which then turns into a concern for people's perception, considered showing off (riya')?

Riya' (showing off) is one of the most dangerous diseases that must be guarded against. It occurs in acts of worship and devotion, not in ordinary matters. So, if a person performs worldly acts, such as improving his home or vehicle, with the intention of being praised or seen by people, this is not considered riya'. However, to obtain reward for ordinary permissible actions, such as managing household affairs, a good intention is required: drawing closer to Allah Almighty and seeking His help in obeying Him.
