Is it true what some people accuse the scholars of concerning takfir and Qutbism?

One must distance oneself from those who speak ill of Muslims or impugn their intentions, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O you who have believed with your tongues but into whose hearts faith has not entered! Do not backbite Muslims, nor spy on their faults, for whoever spies on their faults, Allah will spy on his faults, and whoever Allah spies on his faults, He will expose him in his very home."

A Muslim should advise such people to fear Allah and to refrain from using titles that divide Muslims. Advice should not be given through defamation or by impugning intentions.

As for takfir (declaring someone an apostate), declaring someone an apostate whom Allah and His Messenger have declared an apostate is obligatory, such as in His, the Most High's, sayings: "They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the third of three," and "They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary." However, declaring someone an apostate whom Allah and His Messenger have not declared an apostate is forbidden. As Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: "Just as it is impermissible to declare a specific person an apostate until the conditions for takfir are met concerning him, we must not be timid about declaring someone an apostate whom Allah and His Messenger have declared an apostate. However, we must distinguish between the specific and the general."

Anyone who accuses a person must provide proof, for Allah, the Most High, says: "Say, 'Produce your proof, if you are truthful,'" and "And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is those who are liars in the sight of Allah."

Among the widespread problems is accusing people of faults that are not legally disparaging, without proof, following personal whims that love to judge people. The obligation is to oppose one's whims and to weigh people by the scale of the Sharia, while remembering their good deeds and advising them regarding their mistakes.
