Am I entitled in Islam to claim financial compensation when goods do not conform to the required specifications, and what are the Sharia rulings for that?

It is permissible to sell a commodity by description. If it arrives altered, the buyer has the option to either rescind the contract or keep the item without any compensation (arsh). However, if the alteration is a defect that diminishes the value, then the buyer may keep the item with compensation. An uneven cake or one without flowers is considered defective. If the buyer takes the cake and does not return it, then they are entitled to compensation, which is the percentage difference between its value when sound and its value when defective, multiplied by the price. Experts should be consulted to determine the value of the cake when sound and when defective, in order to ascertain the buyer's right to compensation.
