Is it permissible to listen to songs devoid of musical instruments that do not affect prayer or the recitation of the Qur'an? And are romantic songs permissible?

There is no harm in listening to songs devoid of music if they do not contain anything forbidden by Islamic law and do not distract from the remembrance of Allah and obligatory duties. However, songs that incite lewdness or arouse forbidden desires are not permissible to listen to. The expression "love" in songs, if it is of this nature, is forbidden; otherwise, it is not. Most scholars prohibit listening to singing and musical instruments. The prohibited singing refers to soft poetry that incites inclinations by describing beauty, especially if it is set to a tune that disturbs hearts and stirs lust. As for what is free from that, it is not forbidden. Imam Ahmad interpreted the hadiths that permit singing to mean those that do not contain anything that incites inclinations to lust, such as the singing of riders or what was recited on the day of Bu'ath.
