How can one tread the path of sincere repentance and abandon corruption, and does memorizing the Qur'an help in that, and how can one overcome the lack of supporters in good deeds?
Repentance is immediately obligatory for every sin. Allah has opened the door to repentance, for He, the Almighty, says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" [Az-Zumar: 53].
Among the things that help in sincere repentance are: contemplating the greatness of Allah and His blessings, remembering the gravity of sins, appreciating the importance of hastening to repent before death, being certain of standing before one's Lord, memorizing and acting upon the Quran, engaging in the pursuit of religious knowledge, keeping company with the righteous, and frequently saying: "O Turner of hearts, keep my heart steadfast upon Your religion."
