ما هي السنّة وما معناها؟

"Sunnah" linguistically means "method" or "way." Technically, it refers to the Prophet's sayings, actions, and approvals, encompassing both the obligatory (wajib) and the recommended (mustahabb).

It is the second source of legislation after the Quran, and it holds the same status as the Quran in terms of ruling if its chain of transmission (sanad) is authentic.

One who examines the Sunnah needs to verify the authenticity of its attribution to the Messenger and the soundness of its indication concerning a ruling, whereas the Quran's chain of transmission is continuously recurrent (mutawatir).

If the Sunnah is authentic, it holds the exact same status as the Quran in terms of affirming information and acting upon rulings. The wisdom mentioned in the Quran is the Sunnah, and the Prophet said: "Indeed, I have been given the Book and something similar to it with it."
