A person's mere service to another is not a blameworthy submission to other than God. Rather, what is blameworthy in Islamic law is prioritizing love for other than God over love for Him, or equating them, just as excessive love is not praiseworthy.
The original meaning of submission (al-khudu') is humility, submissiveness, lowliness, and modesty.
