Is it necessary to listen to the Imam's recitation in a distant mosque if his voice reaches another mosque?

Listening to the Holy Quran with contemplation is required and praiseworthy, and whoever listens to a verse will have a multiplied good deed recorded for him. Listening is only obligatory for the congregant (ma'mum) during prayer, due to the Almighty's saying: "And when the Quran is recited, listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy." And people have unanimously agreed that this verse refers to prayer. You are not obliged to listen to the recitation of another person unless he is your Imam in prayer, so if you abandon listening to your Imam and listen to someone else, you have sinned.
