What is the ruling on playing Uno with friends at school during free time, such as during recess, knowing that the game does not involve any material compensation?

Playing cards is forbidden due to the harms it can lead to, such as gambling and disputes, and because it distracts from the remembrance of Allah and prayer. Scholars also prohibit it as a preventative measure (sadd al-dhari'a), as excessive play can lead to falling into forbidden acts, in addition to its reliance on luck and conjecture, which makes it similar to the prohibited dice. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen held the view that this game wastes the time for which a Muslim was created to worship Allah, and this was the ruling of prohibition issued by his Sheikh, Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Sa'di.
