For an expiation of an oath (kaffarat al-yamin), it is necessary to feed ten poor people. Each poor person should be given one Mudd of food (approximately 750 grams of rice). It is more prudent to give half a Sa' (approximately 1.5 kilograms). It is permissible to prepare food and invite the poor to eat it, but it is more prudent to give them ownership of the food. It is also permissible to provide iftar for ten fasting poor people if food for another meal is given to them. However, it is not permissible to give it to those who are not poor. If you appoint an organization to disburse the expiation, you must clarify to them that it is an expiation for an oath and ensure that it is spent in its proper channels.
